What is a Nephrologist?

A nephrologist, sometimes referred to as a “kidney doctor”, is a licensed medical doctor that specializes in the treatment of kidney disorders and conditions. If you have been diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), you may have been referred to a nephrologist. It is important to visit a nephrologist early after your initial diagnosis. Doing so could help preserve kidney function and could prolong the need for other treatments such as dialysis.
